Racing Tips
Passing is difficult at Zandvoort and the first corners can be chaotic on a cold track. Be patient and play it safe, as it will be more fun for all.
Turn 1 Right: Tarzan
The best overtaking spot on the track. Just avoid dive bombing and be extra careful early on in the race. If you are not clearly alongside when the other car starts braking, please avoid attacking.
Turn 3 Left: Hugenholtz Hairpin
In theory, you can attack here – both on the inside and outside under braking. In practice, the approach is difficult, with the car unsettled by the previous right-hander. Be extremely careful and avoid risky moves.
In the early race, brake early and gently and leave a sufficient gap to the cars in front – concertina effects leading to huge pileups are not uncommon here on lap 1.
Turns 6 and 7
You might be tempted to get alongside, but the corners are fast and the line is narrow. It is usually best not to attack here.
Turns 8 and 9: Renault & Vodafone
The track is very wide in Turn 8 and you might be able to take advantage of an error by another driver. However, people tend to cut to the apex rather abruptly (and possibly late) so it is important to avoid dive bombing. What looks like a gap might close quickly and lead to contact. The same is true for Turn 9.
Turns 10 and 11: Audi & Hunserud
A good exit from Turn 9 might get you a clear chance on entering the Turn 10 – Turn 11 complex. As always, avoid dive bombing, be wary of a narrow line and thus leave enough room when attacking or defending, and remember that riding the curbs too aggressively can cause you to spin or go wide into another car.
Turns 12 and 13 Right: Kumho bocht & Arie Luyendyk Bocht
No passing in the final two corners under normal conditions. Just concentrate on getting a good exit to draft on the start/finish straight to complete a pass into Turn 1 (Tarzan).
